The city of Lava Hot Springs recognized my mom by planting a tree in her memory as part of their Arbor Day celebration. I think it was such a kind gesture. My Grandma Avery, Aunt Marion, cousin Madison, brother Kyle, Ethan, James and I as well as the elementary school and many community members attended. (My dad tried to get work off, but could not. Jakob also had to work and Tami had school) First a man from the Arbor Day foundation talked about the importance of trees. Then Mayor Marshall Burgin talked about planting the tree for my mom because she did so much in the community and was in charge of the Arbor day committee. The Mayor also talked about how the tree would grow and so would the kids in the community, and every time they see the tree they would know it was Trish's Tree. Then Canda Dimick talked about how my mom loved music and trees make music if you listen to them. (the leaves in the wind.) and also that my mom loved her family. She said that trees send out seeds to start new little trees like a family. Then she read a nice poem about remembering those who have passed on.
Finally my brother Kyle and I shoveled the dirt into the hole to finish planting the tree. (Who makes a pregnant lady shovel dirt? I guess my home town does. No excuses to not work.) Finally, we took a few photos and then had Ethan and James' favorite part. REFRESHMENTS!!! We were all sent home with pine tree seedlings to plant and the school kids did their service project of picking up garbage around town.
