Baseball

We tried something new this year for baseball. Ethan and James went into Rigby to play baseball and Gavin played T-ball in Ririe.

Ethan played on a U12 team coached by our friend Jordelle Lovell and Tammy Lovell. Jordelle's sons Michael and Boston also played on the team. their team name was the Storm' n Trojans. It was completely kid pitching, leading off and steeling. They did have a rule that you could only get six runs in an inning. Ethan liked playing first base and enjoyed learning to pitch and catch. He pitched every game. Another dad came to a few practices to help him lean to pitch, but a lot of it was on his own. He also liked stilling bases and on the other side throw/tag people out. Ethan has always hit well and even though it was a little bit of a struggle learning to hit off of other kids, he still did really well. Their team lost out in the first round of the tournament, but it was fun to see him play and develop new skills.

James played on a U10 team coached by our Friend Cindy Howe and her friend Erika Smith. He got to play with Cindy's son Lincoln. At James' level the kids pitch until they strike them out or pitch four balls. If they get four balls the coach comes in and finishes pitching the strikes. So if the kid pitches four balls and one strike the coach pitches 2 more. It does not matter if the balls the coach pitches are good or not they are strikes. They also had a six run rule per inning. James also, could not lead off. James stepped up and learned to pitch with out any help from his coach. Not only pitch, but the starting pitcher most games. He also had the opportunity to play most other positions at least once. James hit well even off of other kids that were also just learning to pitch. His team also lost out in the fist round of the tournament.

I was able to coach Gavin's T-ball team. I sure loved my little t-ball team and their families. Gavin is a crazy good batter and can throw and catch well, but like all kids he gets distracted so easily. I am sure his attention span will improve with age. We chose to be the Gray Tigers. The kids on the team are: Gavin Furniss, Kyler Barns, Holden Anderson, Andi Anderson, Ziah Klobas, Kimber Anderson, Scarlet Jacombson, Emmett Jacobson, McCall McClure, KJ Empey Kelly Clark.
